THE HEALING POWER OF YOUR WORDS

The words that come out of your mouth can actually change a person's day (for better or worse). Even though we often don't realize it, our words
may be the only personal contact a person may have had with the outside world on a given day.
Did you ever talk to someone months after a prior conversation you had where the person said, "you made my day when you said [such and such] to me.
I was so down and confused and your words rang in my ears like a song I'd been waiting to hear". Often, we forget how easy it is to give a
compliment or words of encouragement to people we encounter. It can really mean a lot to someone when they receive kindness. Sometimes, we are so
busy that we are only thinking about the tasks at hand and sometimes we may even be a little grumpy. The first person that makes the slightest
gesture of incompetence could be the one who receives our load of frustration. Our words can cut like a knife.
We have all heard the saying, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". That's always a good personal policy to live by. So
often our words can come back to bite us in unmentionable ways.
The next time someone wants to start a gossip session with you, notice how it feels in your body. Is it a knot in your stomach in the solar
plexus area? Ask yourself why you are participating in the gossip. Is it to feel like you are a part of the "in crowd" or group? If so, ask
yourself why you think you need to participate in a group or conversation that puts negativity into action by using cutting or hurtful words.
Do you really feel a need to do this in order to feel like you "belong"? It helps us to become more self-aware when we explore the motives and
reasons for our actions. Ask yourself why am I doing this and does it feel right or good? Is it the right thing for me to do at this time?
Years ago, there was a metaphor going around about how every time you said unkind words to a person, it was like putting a "nail in their fence".
Even though the receiver can't see the words, there is an energetic affect on the person being "nailed". Yes, it's as if a nail is being placed
in the outer layer of their energy field. Ouch! Can you imagine how our elected officials are affected by all the "nails" being strewn at
their "fences"?! Those who are sensitive to energy, can sometimes feel the actual affect of the words when people are talking about them in a
negative way and can feel weakened by it.
Dr. Masara Emoto studied the affect that words have on frozen water crystals [illustrated] in his book "The Hidden Messages in Water". His
experiments have become known throughout the world for their powerful message. When exposed to words such as love and peace the water in the
experiment formed beautiful snowflake-like crystal shapes. When exposed to words such as "I hate you", You are no good," etc., the water
crystals formed ugly and discordant shapes.
Our bodies are made up of a large percentage of water. Thus, it only makes sense that the words we are exposed to can have a huge impact on our
health and well-being.
The same is especially true for the words we say to ourselves. How many times do we call ourselves stupid or "not good enough"? These unkind
words we say to ourselves can have a negative impact on our sense of well-being and the physical wellness of our bodies.
My ex-boyfriend liked to play head games with one of the men at his job. When this man would come to work (looking healthy and well), my ex
would say, "Hey Buddy, you feeling okay today, you look a little pale". Then, my ex would get other workers to tell the man he didn't look too
good today. Before long, the poor man, would end up going home sick for the day! Isn't it interesting what happened to this man when he
accepted what they were saying, even if it was not the truth! You can see how the man then also convinced himself that his body was ill enough
to go home for the day! It's amazing how much we allow ourselves to be affected by what others say to us. This is also a perfect example of how
much we can affect our physical condition by our own thoughts. Our health CAN be a state of mind!
The power of positive thinking (and talking) is real. It has an effect on everyone (including ourselves). So the next time you look in the
mirror, instead of criticizing, try saying to your reflection, "You look marvelous, Darling!"
Wellness CAN be just a THOUGHT away!
